Everyone knows Red Bull as the energy drink that “gives you wings.” But not everyone knows about Red Bull’s strong involvement in the sports community. I mean, maybe you remember that crazy motorcycle jump at Champs-Elysees, or the guy who dove out of a balloon at the edge of space.
But Red Bull has been active in the sports community for years – and not just the extreme sports community. Yes, they’ve held events for skateboarders, wingsuits, and BMX bikers. But they’ve also held massive competitions for Surf & Rescue lifeguards, paper airplane afficiandos, and most recently rowing. In spring 2015 we were approached by the sports marketing team at Red Bull to help them create a series of videos around their upcoming event, Red Bull High Stakes. High Stakes was Red Bull’s first foray into the rowing community, and they wanted to make sure they did it right. During the project we worked closely with Olympic athletes like Andrew Campbell & Esther Lofgren, pillars of the rowing community like Sean Wolf, and the Red Bull marketing team to craft a story about rowing in Boston and this event’s place in that community. In the end we created a brief promo featuring Andrew Campbell, and then a 5-minute recap video of the event. We had three camera operators, a set photographer, and numerous GoPros on hand to get every possible angle. As you can tell from the video, it worked.
