You probably know that Mark Leisher Productions started out as an incubator company in Bethesda Green’s business incubator. When Mark formed MLP, he knew he wanted to marry high-end video production and environmental stewardship, and a green nonprofit was the perfect place from which to launch.
Over the years MLP has been heavily involved in stewardship and sustainability projects. We worked with Bethesda Green to promote their programs and initiatives, filmed a documentary about the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve, co-founded a film festival about water issues, and worked with the County government to highlight sustainable businesses. It’s been amazing to be able to combine our professional passion with our passion for the environment and the world around us.
So we’re really excited about our latest accomplishment. Two of our videos were solicited for submission by a California film festival. Water Take 1 is based out of Ventura, California, and features short film that highlight our relationship with water. Now in its 4th year, Water Take 1 has put a spotlight on critical water issues, and in the midst of California’s historic drought, has brought to light options for smart water use and conservation.
Our two included films are PADDLE, a short documentary about the Potomac River Paddlefest and the rowing community’s stewardship of the Potomac River, and RiverSmart Homes, a short film that showcases the initiatives helmed by the District of Columbia to reduce stormwater runoff. All submitted films are eligible for the Audience Choice award, and voting is open now!
If you’ve enjoyed our work before, we’d love for you to head over to Water Take 1, watch PADDLE and RiverSmart Homes, and give us your vote! While you’re there, check out some of the other great work featured in the festival. But only vote for us!
We’ve submitted to a few other film festivals that are occurring in early 2016, so be sure to stay tuned and see where we’re at!
