In 2008 Mark was hired by Director Marc Bennett and Executive Producer Heidi Houston to be the Director of Photography for the film that would become Hot Flash Havoc. The documentary is a film of menopausal proportions (get it?!) that is enlightening, entertaining, and a crash-course in what you need to know about menopause. Menopause is a topic that doesn’t get discussed much. “The Change” or “The Second Act” is glossed over in pop culture (except for the occasional joke about hot flashes) and the misinformation out there can actually severely harm women’s health. Hot Flash Havoc sheds light on the facts, shares the often-poignant stories of real women, and delves into in-depth interviews with the top experts in the medical field.
Since its premiere, Hot Flash Havoc has been recognized in film festivals around the country, and has been the official selection in both the Aspen Independent by Nature Film Festival and the Miami Doc International Film Festival. It’s been featured on Good Morning America, and reviewed in the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, and on FOX News. In 2016, Hot Flash Havoc finally comes to a (silver) screen near you! Hot Flash Havoc has been licensed by PBS, and in March will air on PBS stations throughout the US and Canada. So far the film will be showing in Seattle, Indianapolis, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Wyoming, Cleveland, New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey. This is awesome news!
So how can you get your eyes on Hot Flash Havoc? Well, if you’re in one of the markets listed above, check your local listings! If not, reach out to your local PBS station and ask them to rebroadcast it! And for all you Downton Abbey fans – don’t worry, the broadcasts won’t interfere with PBS Masterpiece! So please, if you are a woman of a certain age (or know and love a woman of a certain age) be sure to watch Hot Flash Havoc. It could save your life. (Or your sanity!)
